Some Common WWII Era Uniforms
Hospital & Recreation Service
(became Gray Lady Service in 1947)

Gray cotton shirtwaist with long or short sleeves.  White collar, cuffs and epaulets can be attached or detachable.  Belt of matching material.  Gray veil attached to white coronet with 1" red cross in center.  Veil replaced by gray cotton coif  attached to coronet in 1942.

Canteen Service

Medium to bright blue shirtwaist in cotton.  Short sleeves.  Attached white collar, cuffs and epaulets.  Belt of matching material.  Coif of matching material with white coronet, 1" red cross in front.
 
 
 

Nurses Aide Service

Medium blue chambray pinafore worn with short-sleeved white blouse.  Service patch on left sleeve of blouse.  Cap of  matching material with white band around edge, 1" service patch in front center.
 
 

Staff Aide Service

Yellow cotton shirtwaist with short or long sleeves, white collar, cuffs and epaulets.  Belt of matching material.  Veil or Coif as described under Hospital & Recreation Service.
 
 
 

Production Service

White cotton shirtwaist with long or short sleeves.  Matching collar and belt, blue cuffs and epaulets.  Veil or coif as described in Hospital and Recreation Service.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Motor Corps Service

Double breasted coat-dress of Oxford Gray whipcord or similar material.  (Spun rayon mentioned 1942.)  Black ARC buttons.  Worn with white dickey, black tie and black belt.  Overseas style cap.
 
 
 
 

Winter Suit

Dark blue-gray gabardine with a convertible peter-pan collar and matching 6 gore skirt.  Pocket flaps parallel to waistline.  Visor cap with bow in front.
 
 
 
 

Summer Suit

Light gray wool/rayon fabric with open lapels, matching 6 gore skirt.  Pocket flaps parallel to waistline.  Full or partial lining.  Visor cap with bow in front or overseas cap.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Visor Caps for Winter and Summer Suits

Same material as suit with bow in front.  Cut-out cross placed in center of bow.

Military Welfare Winter Suit

Dark charcoal gray with 4 pockets, blue with black center line collar tabs, matching 6 gore skirt.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Overseas cap worn with Military Welfare Suit.
Blue wool cape with red felt lining. Stand-up collar and 3 button closure. Patch on left breast.
